One of the things you are probably wondering is, how is the food at Cala Mia Island Resort? If you read our reviews on Trip Advisor you will see guests keep on repeating one word “fantastic”.  

Prior to your visit to our resort in Panama you will get an email asking about your food preferences. We understand that guests have special needs due to their religious background, intolerances or allergies, so we want to make sure we can accommodate your preferences. When you arrive at the Gulf of Chiriquí everything will be organized for you to be able to enjoy yourself. Guests can request meal packages when booking or simply order what you desire à la carte. 

Cala Mia Island Resort Restaurant Options  

Breakfast is always included in your stay. Wake up with our delicious freshly brewed coffee from the Chiriquí Province of Panama. Panamanian coffee constantly wins international competitions, breaking its own records. Your server will bring you a fresh plate of fruits and ask you what you would like to eat. Options include French toast with bacon or sausages, as well as eggs done in any style you might prefer. A hearty breakfast will give you fuel to go off to do your tours and activities.  

Lunch is served casually in our Laguna Azul Beach Bar in front of the Pacific Ocean. Hear the waves while you refresh yourself sipping a cool beer or cocktail while your food arrives. You must try the pizza which is baked in a wood-fired oven. The dough and the sauce are made from scratch. A chef came from Italy to Cala Mia Resort to teach our staff how to make authentic pizza. And it worked, since our guests tell us constantly that it is the best pizza in Panama.  

Punto Sur is our main Panamanian restaurant which is what you will see when you arrive. A casita full of windows with a deck and a thatched roof sticks out from the tropical rainforest. All three meals can be served here. Dinner is romantic since lights are dimmed giving a soft ambiance to the place.  

Besides our regular menu, guest will also have daily dinner specials with two options for appetizer, entree and dessert. One day you can eat lobster, the next pork ribs. If you are vegetarian or vegan we can accommodate you as well. This way you will always have new delicious meal options.  

Locally Sourced Ingredients  

We strive to maintain the highest standards in food safety and quality. Menus are done with the collaboration of international chefs and our local staff using a fusion style between Panamanian cuisine and international dishes. Ricardo, our executive chef, has been with Cala Mia Island Resort for 13 years, since the hotel was founded, and can cook delicious traditional Panamanian food and gourmet international meals.  

Cala Mia Island Resort sources its food locally. One of our providers is Dioselina Bella, who has a small hydroponics farm up in the highlands of Boquete. She employs indigenous Ngäbe-Buglé women, as do we in our resort. Our tomatoes, edible flowers, lettuces, and herbs are brought over at least twice a week, so everything is fresh.  

We are blessed to be located in one of the best places to go fishing in Panama. Which is why we always have fresh seafood, including what you catch as well!
